I have an essay in the January issue of Portland Monthly about my sweet son. For those who aren’t from here, Portland Monthly is a high brow mag about our city. Read the essay here: http://www.portlandmonthlymag.com/issues/current-issue/articles/p-towndiary0109/

Dear Kerry; Hi.. Hope you remember me. (loose dad) Well, synchronicity has operated and I just wanted to connect again. Since our little exchange of e-mails, I have met a wonderful woman. She is a full-time caregiver for an autistic adult. His family is very wealthy and he needs very little care. Apparently, the family has gone all out for him over the years and created a Waldorf school and community and a separate live-in 300 acre community for the emotionally disabled. One of my best friends is a Waldorf teacher and has a son named Ezra.
I’m learning that these people can thrive and reward us in ways that ‘normals’ can’t generally recognize. Their art for instance has an emotional immediacy that is thrilling. Psychic abilities abound. The heart energies around them are disturbingly intense and they sense inauthenticity a mile away. I’ve had some experience with wild animals especially predators which is similar. There is so much we don’t know, and can’t be accessed through psychotherapeutic means. I do believe there is an evolutionary purpose for the outbreak of autism in this society connected to our over-reliance on symbol manipulation (words). These folks swim in fields of emotional soup.
My lady friend…ok, very definate love interest, has awesome spiritual and emotional depth and if you are interested, I will keep in touch and forward info which might be helpful with your son.
All the best to you and family.
